4C has announced that the Global Coffee Platform (GCP) has officially recognised the service as equivalent to the Coffee Sustainability Reference Code (Coffee SR Code) in the category of 3rd party assurance.
4C is an independent, internationally-recognised sustainability standard for the coffee industry, proving third-party audits for companies looking to comply with environmentaly-conscious operations.
“Being recognised by GCP’s Equivalence Mechanism 2.0 holds immense significance for 4C,” says 4C Managing Director Norbert Schmitz. “Receiving this recognition reinforces 4C’s position as a reliable and comprehensive 3rd party certification system and strengthens our commitment to collaborating with the coffee sector to advance sustainability.”
The Equivalence Mechanism, Coffee SR Code, and GCP Collective Reporting on Sustainable Coffee Purchases were developed by GCP to establish a sector-wide understanding of the foundations for coffee production while proving a common language and recognised framework for sustainability in green coffee production and processing.
The Equivalence Mechanism 2.0 was released by GCP in November 2022, and it proposes stricter sustainability and operational criteria.
“We are dedicated to continuing working closely with GCP and other stakeholders to drive positive change, creating a more sustainable future for coffee,” says Schmitz.
4C is now eligible again to be included in the annual GCP Collective Reporting on Sustainable Coffee Purchases.
