On 1 October, Italy’s Accademia del Caffè Espresso will premier its The Rise of Espresso documentary at the Italian Film Festival in Sydney, Australia, to celebrate International Coffee Day.
The Rise of Espresso shares the anecdotes, dreams, and challenges of immigrants who have produced and consumed coffee, with the hope of promoting appreciation for quality coffee and the understanding of its supply chain among a wider audience.
This documentary is part of a broader approach to the topic, initiated from Accademia’s Coffee Migrant/Migrant Coffee—BRAZIL Chapter II exhibit currently on display in Florence, Italy. The exhibition explores the significant migratory flow of over one-million Italians to Brazilian ports between the 19th and 20th centuries, where they engaged in coffee cultivation and businesses.
The second edition of the exhibit, Coffee Migrant/Migrant Coffee—NEW WORLDS Chapter II, will be launched in 2025 and illustrate the journey of Italian migrants to the New Worlds (Australia, Canada, and the United States).
To celebrate International Coffee Day, Accademia del Caffè Espresso will host a public Open Day event on 1 October to showcase its spaces – including La Marzocco’s heritage museum, coffee labs and the interactive lounge – and research content.
