The Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE) will celebrate its relationship with the Specialty Coffee Association of Japan (SCAJ) with an exhibition at the SCAJ World Specialty Coffee Conference and Exhibition 2018 (SCAJ2018) on 27 September. “Ask any specialty coffee buyer where most of the award-winning Cup of Excellence (COE) coffees are being sold and they will inevitably pin the country of Japan,” ACE says in its Fall newsletter. “Dedicated Japanese roasters and cuppers have been the energy that thrust Cup of Excellence as a small competition and auction to the forefront of the global specialty coffee sector. Many of the sample preparation, cupping and jury procedures were put in place for the competition after consultation with quality advisors from Japan.” SCAJ2018 is one of the largest specialty coffee events in Asia and will host the 2018 Japan Barista, Brewers Cup and Cup Tasters Championships, as well as the 2018 World Siphonist Championship. SCAJ2018 will take place in Tokyo Big Sight West Hall 3 and 4 from 26 – 28 September. The 2018 COE Rwanda auction will be held on 20 September, followed by the Burundi auction on 2 October, Colombia on 13 November, Peru on 20 November, Brazil Pulped Natural on 29 November and Brazil Natural on 5 December.
