A booming crowd of almost 10,000 coffee enthusiasts have made their way to the Melbourne Showgrounds over three days for the sixth annual Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE). A final attendance of 9,646 people from all tiers of the industry, as well as general public, was recorded for the 2017 instalment of MICE. As well as hosting a stellar line-up of exhibitors from around the globe, the show featured the Australian finals for all of the top-level coffee championships. Hugh Kelly of Ona Coffee took out the Australian Barista Championship for the second year in a row. Hugh is only the second Australian to win the prestigious Australian Specialty Coffee Association title since Paul Basset won the championship in 2002 and 2003. Jack Allisey of Veneziano Coffee Roasters was the first person to win the Australian Coffee Roasting Championship. Ona Coffee Head Roaster Sam Corra was announced the 2017 Australian Brewers Cup Champion, Aaron Dongsu Shin of Short Black Café won the Latte Art title and Yama King of Kingswood Coffee in Sydney was crowned Australian Cup Tasters Champion.
