Brazil's Robério Oliveira Silva has been named as the new Executive Director of the International Coffee Organisation, set to start a five year term on a date to be announced. Oliveira Silva is currently the Director of Brazil's Coffee Department and Chief of Staff of the Secretariat of Production and Argoenergy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply of Brazil. In a press release issued on 30 September, members of the International Coffee Council expressed their warm appreciation to the governments of India and Mexico, who withdrew their respective candidates, G.V. Krishna Rau and Rodolfo Taubert, “to enable a consensus decision to be taken”. Oliveira Silver will replace current Executive Director Jose Sette who was appointed as Executive Director from 1 November 2010 to 30 September 2011. According to his CV released by the ICO, Oliveira Silva has 18 years experience in the international market, and seven years in Brazil's federal government. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (Federal University of Minas Gerais), and is fluent in English and Spanish, with a good knowledge of French.
