Brexit result delays SCAA unification vote

The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) has delayed the vote on its proposed unification with the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE) by two weeks after the UK voted to exit the European Union. A vote among SCAA members on the proposed unification of their organisation with the SCAE was scheduled to take place from 27 June – 27 July, however those dates have now been moved to 5 July – 5 August. A statement from the SCAA explains that the decision was made “out of an abundance of caution”. The SCAA says the delay will “allow for close examination of the details of our agreement, and be certain that our members can make a fully informed vote . . . We remain enthusiastic about unifying with SCAE, and SCAA leaders are working closely with our counterparts in Europe.” Members of the SCAE have already voted overwhelmingly in favour of unifying the two organisations in a poll held in May, 2016.
