Just months after opening its first store in India, Greek coffeehouse company Coffee Island has expanded to a second site ahead of its aggressive planned expansion in the region.

The new Hyderabad store marks the company’s first foray into southern India, after its first location was opened in Gurugram in partnership with Vita Nova.

Coffee Island celebrated the opening of the new store in a company statement.

“From a European favourite to a beloved name across continents, Coffee Island marks another bold milestone,” it says. “We are now officially open in Hyderabad – and not just anywhere. Our second café in India opens its doors inside a leading technology company.

“After a phenomenal debut in Gurugram, we’re thrilled to bring our European coffee culture to South India for the very first time.

“This expansion is more than just a new store. It’s a testament to the love of our community, the hard work of our teams, and the power of a good cup of coffee to connect people across cultures.”

Upon the opening of its initial Gurugram site, Coffee Island announced its intention to open 20 outlets by March 2026 and increase its footprint to 250 stores by 2029.

Mumbai and Bangalore have been floated as future expansion markets by the business in India, along with the surrounding regions of Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and the Maldives.

Coffee Island opened its first coffee shop in Patras, Greece, in 1999 and has since expanded across Europe, Asia, and North America to hold almost 500 stores.
