Colombia, the world's largest producer of mild washed Arabica coffee, produced a total of 14.2 million 60-kilogram bags of coffee between January and December 2016. According to figures from the Colombian Coffee Farmers Federation (FNC), production reached 1.3 million bags in December 2016. This represented a 9 per cent decrease compared to December 2015's 1.4 million bags. Similarly, so far this coffee year (October-December 2016), coffee production has registered a 5 per cent increase by reaching nearly 4.4 million bags. Between January and December 2016, Colombian coffee exports reached 12.9 million bags. This entailed a 1 per cent increase compared to the 12.7 million bags registered during 2015. During December 2016, coffee exports experienced a 23 per cent increase by reaching 1.5 million 60-kilogram bags. So far this coffee year (October 2016-December 2017), Colombian coffee exports reached 4 million bags. This represented a 15.8 per cent increase compared to the 3.5 million bags sold in international markets during the same previous period.
