Costa Coffee won the title of Best Coffee Chain at the 2012 European Coffee Awards, that took place on 21 November in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. McCafé also emerged a big winner of the night, being named Best Coffee Chain in German & Austria and France & Switzerland regions. McCafé came third in the Best Coffee Chain Europe category, falling behind Runner Up Starbucks Coffee Company. Just missing the win was a theme for Starbucks for the night, who took home five Runner-Up positions, and one Third Place. Coffee Company proved a crowd favourite, taking home the title of Best Coffee Chain Benelux in its hometown of Amsterdam. Prufrock Coffee was also named Europe's Best Independent Coffee Shop, while United Coffee was named Best Coffee Roaster. On the equipment side, Italian espresso machine manufacturers La Marzocco were named Best Coffee Equipment Supplier. Pret A Manger were named Most Ethical Brand. More than 350 senior executives from across the coffee and food-to-go sectors gathered at the black tie event, that took place at the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam. The awards are the result of peer-voting, with over 10,000 industry executives invited to nominate, through a targeted campaign. The winners are the companies and individuals who received the most nominations within each category. This is the fifth edition of the European Coffee Awards, which are held in conjunction with the European Coffee Symposium. Next year's event is set to take place in Paris, France.
