United Kingdom coffee chain Costa Coffee has announced more than 1100 of its stores will re-open across the UK by the end of June.
The coffee chain says it has worked hard to make its stores safe and welcoming for customers and employees. Each store has been equipped with protective equipment, hand sanitiser stations, and will continue to operate with contactless payment.
Perspex screens have been installed at all counters across take-away stores, with designated pick-up points for delivery and mobile order collections. Both inside and outside stores, two-meter floor signs have been carefully placed to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
Bespoke serving hatches have been designed for Costa Coffee drive-through sites to ensure customers can collect their order with no contact. These hatches, which lower items from the service hatch down to customer’s vehicles, have a built-in acrylic hygiene screen to provide maximum protection for both customers and Costa Coffee team members.
News of the openings follows on from research from Market Measures which unveiled that 45 per cent of consumers missed visiting their local coffee shop more than pubs, bars, and fast-food restaurants during the lockdown. Out of all brands surveyed, more than a quarter – at 27 per cent – of consumers said Costa Coffee was the brand that they missed the most.
“We’re delighted to be able to share the news that by the end of June [more than] 1100 of our stores will re-open for take-away or delivery. We have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback that we have received from our customers and are pleased to once again be able to serve them our signature, handcrafted coffee,” Costa Coffee CEO Jill McDonald says.
“Not only have we been working hard to re-open our stores, but our teams have also ensured that [more than] 8400 Costa Express machines have been available to serve barista quality, machine crafted coffee to those in need of a fix.
“We have also continued to show our appreciation to key workers across the country and have successfully delivered over 861,000 Ready-to-Drink Costa Coffee cans and 1200 coffee packs to those who deserve a well-earned coffee break.”
