Ecuador has joined the international electronic commerce through e-Ecuador, a platform that connects Ecuadorian exporters with importers directly and from anywhere in the world, to find new business opportunities and international expansion. E-Ecuador launched at the end of 2018. Currently, the platform has 2000 Ecuadorian export companies registered in its system, with more than 2000 different products displayed on the platform. Prior to launching the platform, all Ecuadorian exporters as well as international buyers had to be approved by Pro Ecuador or its approximately 30 commercial offices located around the world, guaranteeing the suitability of each user in this business portal. E-Ecuador, promoted by Pro Ecuador and the Production and Foreign Trade Ministry, consolidates the country’s supply of exportable products and services in a single digital environment, simplifying global trade. Pro Ecuador says e-Ecuador has already shown results, with several successful business cases with buyers who weren’t familiar with the Ecuadorian market and were able to purchase products at lower prices and with international quality. Importers are able to negotiate directly with the producers, without intermediaries or middlemen, to get the best conditions for their business. The Minister of Economy in Ecuador, Richard Martinez, says Ecuadorian coffee from Loja, located in the south of the country, is currently sent to new destinations in the United States such as Wisconsin, Kentucky, Iowa, Michigan, and Indiana, thanks to the e-Ecuador platform.
