The Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) has announced the appointment of Emma Sage as the organization's technical services manager.
In her new position, Ms. Sage will support the development and implementation of CQI's projects and programming, research and development, and product innovation. She will also work closely on Q Processing, CQI's latest initiative that certifies competencies around coffee processing.
Prior to joining CQI, Ms. Sage served as science manager for the Specialty Coffee Association, where she focused on creating resources for the membership. Before coming to the coffee industry, she worked with a variety of laboratory and field research projects in plant physiology, biology, ecology, enology, and climate change science.
“I am enthusiastic to put my years of academic and 'book learning' to use toward CQI's mission,” says Ms. Sage. “I look forward to seeing CQI continue to thrive as we expand our technical services and scientifically founded program offerings. I am excited to work with this talented team, who is dedicated to improving coffee quality and the lives of people who produce it.”
Ms. Sage holds a Master's of Science degree in botany, a Bachelor of Arts in ecology, and a post-graduate certificate in applied sensory and consumer science.
“Emma brings the rare combination of having both a deep scientific background and an extensive knowledge of coffee, both as a product and an industry,” says David Roche, CQI's executive director. “She will be a great addition to our team of experts, and we are so happy to have her at CQI.”
