Lavazza won the Most Ethical Brand – Europe category at the 2018 European Coffee Awards, held as part of the European Coffee Symposium on 29 November. Union Hand-Roasted placed second, and Starbucks placed third. Joe & the Juice was crowned Best Coffee Chain in the Europe-wide and Nordics categories. Starbucks was runner-up for Best Coffee Chain – Europe, and Costa Coffee placed third. Starbucks was named the Best Coffee Chain in Western and Central/Eastern Europe, while Coffee Island took the Southern Europe title, and Department of Coffee and Social Affairs
Won Best Coffee Chain in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Illy was named the Best Coffee Roaster – Europe, while Union Hand-Roasted was crowned Europe’s Best Specialty Coffee Roaster. La Marzocco took out Best Coffee Equipment Supplier – Europe, an award La Marzocco CEO Guido Bernardinelli, Chairman of the Board Kent Bakke, Marketing Director Chris Salierno, and United Kingdom and Ireland General Manager Paul Kelly accepted on behalf of La Marzocco’s global staff and partners. Best Food Supplier – Europe went to UK bakery Cakesmiths, and Best Non-Coffee Supplier – Europe was awarded to plant-based product provider Alpro. The Barn in Berlin, Germany was award Best Independent Coffee Shop – Europe. Cafezal placed second, and Tim Wendelboe placed third. Nando Ottavi of the Simonelli Group was recognised for his contribution to ythe European coffee industry with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
