The inaugural Fairtrade Awards, recognising outstanding Fairtrade organisations and people, will be held at its June 2014 General Assembly in Bonn, Germany. Awards will be granted in four main categories, including Small Producer Organisation of the Year, Workers’ Premium Committee of the Year, Fairtrade Trader and Fairest Fairtrader. “We are excited to launch the first Fairtrade Awards to recognise and celebrate these achievements and encourage best practice,” says Harriet Lamb, CEO of Fairtrade International. “It is always inspiring to hear about those, in worker committees or smallholder organisations, who go the extra mile and achieve outstanding results.” There will be a number of Small Producer Organisation and Workers’ Premium Committee of the Year Awards, as Fairtrade will recognise a different organisation from Asia, Africa and Middle East, and Latin America. The winning small producer organisations and workers premium committees will receive an Apple iPad Mini (to be used for the benefit of the entire organisation), and will be featured on the Fairtrade International website. An independent panel will be responsible for judging the awards. Visit the Fairtrade International website before 30 April to nominate yourself or someone else for an award: http://www.fairtrade.net/fairtrade-awards.html
