Supermodel and environmental activist Gisele Bündchen has joined the board of Rainforest Alliance to help shape the vision, strategic plans and policies that guide the organisation’s development and global sustainability efforts. Bündchen has a well-established commitment to environmental responsibility, supporting a variety of environmental causes, including clean water initiatives, environmental sustainability and preservation of South American rainforests. In 2009 she was granted the title of goodwill ambassador by the United Nations Environment Programme. In May 2011 Bündchen was named Harvard's 2011 Global Environmental Citizen in recognition of her work. She was again recognised in November 2011 when she was awarded Greenest Celebrity at the 2011 International Green Awards at the National History Museum of London. “Along with her acute business acumen, Gisele brings an authentic passion for environmental issues and social innovation,” said president of the Rainforest Alliance, Tensie Whelan, in a statement. “We look forward to working together to expand our current sustainability initiatives and to develop new and creative strategies to tackle social and environmental challenges worldwide.”
