Global leaders in the coffee industry will meet at the International Coffee Organization (ICO) CEO and Global Leaders forum in London, to address the current coffee price crisis on 23 September.
Participants will sign a declaration reaffirming their commitment to achieving a sustainable future for the coffee sector.
Raw coffee export prices have dropped 30 per cent in the last two years, dramatically impacting farmers and coffee-producing economies.
Meanwhile, the demand for coffee has increased 65 per cent over the past two decades, reaching an export value of US$20 million per year.
Government signatories adopted a resolution in 2018 mandating that the ICO “promote dialogue among all stakeholders in the coffee value chain to ensure the economic sustainability of coffee producers.”
Al Jazeera journalist Maryam Nemazee will moderate the forum, which will host representatives from corporations, coffee associations and governments.
The event will be available for viewing via live stream at http://www.facebook.com/ICOcoffeeorg
