Espresso machine manufacturer La Marzocco will host the 2017 Unites States AeroPress Championship at the La Marzocco Café in Seattle, Washington on 6 September. The event at the KEXP Seattle Center Campus will bring together nine qualifying baristas from across the US. “It is exciting to bring AeroPress competitors and enthusiasts to Seattle for the final competition. We love supporting events like this because they encourage experimentation in brewing as a way to bring the coffee community together,” says Joe Monaghan, President of La Marzocco North America. The AeroPress championship involves steeping coffee and forcing it through a filter and plunger. The World AeroPress Championship (WAC) began in Oslo in 2008. The event is the brainchild of Tim Wendelboe and Tim Varney, with the intention of finding a great recipe for the then, little know AeroPress. Tim Williams came on board in 2013, and now 10 years on, the WAC is a highly-regarded international competition, holding a fiercely independent place on the global coffee event calendar. Fun, light-hearted and irreverent, the AeroPress Championship is designed for everyone. The championship will feature coffees by New Zealand’s Coffee Supreme, the current roaster in residency at La Marzocco Café, and food provided by Seattle’s El Cabrito Oaxaca and Dante’s Inferno Dogs. For anyone in Seattle this week, the event is open to the public and US$1 tickets are still available. Click here.
