Following a challenging year in the coffee industry, Swedish coffee roaster Löfbergs has released its 2024 sustainability report.

In the report, Löfbergs says it aims to continue to prioritise sustainability and environment, despite the reduced yields, tougher conditions for coffee farmers, and higher green coffee prices in the industry.

“When others want to slow down, we want to accelerate. Sticking to sustainability requires courage and a long-term approach. We are convinced that a sustainable transition is necessary for the planet and crucial for companies that want to be relevant and competitive,” says Anders Fredriksson, Löfbergs CEO.

Löfbergs reports its development projects – designed to improve the development and living conditions for small-scale coffee farmers – have had more than 190,000 participants. These projects are carried out within the frameworks of International Coffee Partners and coffee&climate.

The company also reports to be the first Swedish coffee roaster to convert to 100 per cent fossil-free sea transports, which resulted in a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions of 1400 tons.

The sustainability report also highlighted the company’s coffee waste. It outlined that only 0.3 per cent of all coffee that passes through the roastery turns into waste. Going forward, Löfbergs aims to use the remaining waste as raw material in new products, for example in peat-free coffee soil.
