Export Director at Gruppo Cimballi Luigi Morello has taken home the Lifetime Achievement Award at the European Coffee Awards in Copenhagen. In his more than 25 years in the coffee industry, Morello has been Director of the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe and Director of the Italian National Espresso Institute, in addition to having spent eleven years with the Italian espresso equipment manufacturer, Cimballi. Held in Denmark’s capital last week as part of Allegra’s Event’s European Coffee Symposium, the awards recognise excellence across 12 different categories. Caravan Coffee Roasters won the Best Independent Coffee Shop Award, for its café in London’s King’s Cross. Tesco backed venture, Harris + Hoole won Best Coffee Chain UK and Ireland, while Espresso House, Coffee Company, Joe & The Juicer and Costa Coffee took home the same award in different regions. This is the fifth consecutive year that Costa Coffee has received the award. Its Managing Director Andy Marshall took home the Lifetime Achievement Award last year. Nuova Simonelli won Best Equipment Supplier and Beyond The Bean won Best Food and Non-Coffee Supplier. Union Hand Roasted won Best Artisan Roaster and Andreas Hertzberg won Outstanding Contribution to the European Coffee Industry. Next year’s European Coffee Awards will take place in Budapest, Hungary as part of the European Coffee Symposium. The Award ceremony will take place at The Hilton Budapest Hotel on 22 November 2016.
