Mahlkönig and Hemro Group expand production capacity in Germany

Coffee grinder manufacturer Mahlkönig, part of the Hemro Group, has announced it’s expanding its production and assembly capacities, moving to a new location in Hamburg, Germany.

Hemro Group says the selection of a new location was primarily driven by the desire of improving the technical infrastructure and creating a pleasant working environment for all employees.

Since the 1960s, Mahlkönig’s coffee grinders have been manufactured in the district of Wandsbek. With the success of the EK43 grinder, and with production soon to start of its “new high-end espresso grinders of the Next Generation”, Hemro Group says the location has been pushed further and further to its limits.

“We do not simply need more space and a more modern equipment, but rather an environment that optimally reflects the premium claim of the Mahlkönig brand both externally and internally towards our employees.” says Dr. Marcel Lehmann, CEO of Hemro Group.

“The internationally increasing demand has recently brought us almost to the edge of our production capacities. Since a further expansion of the existing plant was hardly feasible, we decided to find a new location and shape the future also in this regard.”

At the end of an intensive search, the decision was made in favour of the neighbouring site, which had become vacant in the meantime.

“We have remained true to ourselves with the preservation and contemporary renovation of a proven building. In keeping with the development of our product and brand world, we have also succeeded in bringing tradition and innovation into perfect harmony at the new location,” Lehmann says.

“After two years of renovation, we now have a technically state-of-the-art building with a unique character and a history of its own. Above all, the new plant inspires with its open space and the opportunities it offers. The move of the offices and assembly areas was completed at the beginning of June. Our grinding disc production followed last week and with this step we have reached another important milestone for both our Hamburg location as well as for the entire Hemro Group. The large, light-flooded halls make our lean manufacturing processes more visible and offer an open and modern working environment to our approximately 100 employees every day.”

In addition to that, the new commercial and administrative areas are also more spacious, modern and transparent than before.

The open offices are furnished in many places with brand-specific design elements reflecting the identity, tradition, and “innovativeness” of the four Hemro brands – Mahlkönig, Anfim, Ditting, and HeyCafé.

“With this major step, we are pleased to preserve the origins of the Mahlkönig brand at our Hamburg location while creating ideal conditions for the innovative strength and future development of our group at the same time,” Lehmann says.
