More than 100 leaders of the coffee industry came from around the world to attend the Global Coffee Review’s Leaders Symposium, held on 22 May. The event, which was held on the eve of the Melbourne International Coffee Expo, featured sessions on doing business in Asia, the disconnect between coffee supply and global prices, the rust crisis and the rise of single-serve coffee and certification. Featuring speakers from some of the industry’s biggest players, including Vietnam’s largest roaster, Trung Nguyen, roasting machinery leader Probat, Italian roaster Lavazza and representatives from origin countries Costa Rica and Guatemala, the Symposium was a forum for an open and frank exchange of knowledge that sent many delegates away with fresh ideas about the future of their industry. “An event like this allows the key players in the industry to form an idea in their mind of how they should be planning for the future, of where the market is going,” said the National Account Manager for Commercial Coffee for Lion, Lance Brown.
