The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) has opened nominations for the 2019 SCA Sustainability Awards. The SCA says the Sustainability Awards celebrate innovative individuals, projects, and businesses supporting sustainable growth in the coffee industry through collaborative partnerships that pursue equity, prioritise mutual benefits, and result in a positive impact throughout the coffee supply chain. The 2019 awards will include three categories: Project, Business Model, and the new Individual. The Project award celebrates innovative programs that expand and promote sustainability within the coffee world. This award is open to SCA members who are involved in the coffee industry. Individuals, organisations, businesses, farms and cooperatives may submit applications for multiple projects or programs. The Business Model award recognises individuals, businesses and organisations who have created and implemented sustainable frameworks. It aims to inspire others to initiate similar endeavours. This Individual award will recognise an individual who has significantly contributed to advancing sustainability in the coffee industry. This could be through raising awareness of key issues or developing a project or business model that generates positive social and environmental impacts. The Sustainability Committee of the SCA Sustainability Center will review all applications submitted through its website. The committee says it considers a wide range of applicants, reflecting the depth and breadth of sustainable work being done in all areas across the specialty coffee industry. Nominations must be submitted by 14 December, 2018. Award recipients will be notified by 1 February, 2019, and the awards will be presented in April 2019 at the Re:co Symposium, in Boston, United States. For more information, click here.
