Nueva Alianza farm wins Perú Cup of Excellence

Dwigth Aguilar Masias of Nueva Alianza farm in the Cusco region has won the Perú Cup of Excellence (COE), scoring 91.08 for his washed Geisha coffee. Damián Espinoza García of La Palma farm in Cajamarca placed second with his washed Yellow Caturra scoring 89.85. Franklin Chinguel Morales of El Romerillo farm in Cajamarca placed third with his washed Bourbon scoring 89.58. Florencia Mamani Calcina of Candelaria farm in Puno placed fourth with a blend of Bourbon and Caturra that scored 89.43. The Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE) held the second annual Perú COE in Lima on 12 October, in collaboration with country partners Ministerio de Agricultura y Riego. “Clearly, we can see this second year as a deeper dive into the incredible skills producers are able to execute with quality throughout the process,” ACE Executive Director Darrin Daniel says. The National Jury evaluated 267 samples, which it narrowed down to 35 coffees for the International Jury to judge. The COE International jury represented markets from Japan, South Korea, United States, Netherlands, Norway, Greece, Lithuania, United Kingdom, Belguim, Germany, Czech Republic, Australia, Argentina, and Perú. It selected 23 washed coffee lots for the COE Auction and eight for the National Winner Auction.  The COE Auction will take place on 20 November.  Upcoming COE auctions include Colombia on 13 November, Brazil Pulped Naturals on 29 November, and Brazil Naturals on 5 December.
