Nuova Simonelli named official sponsors of 2013 and 2014 Italian Barista Championships

The Italian Barista Championship Association announced on 25 September that Nuova Simonelli has been chosen as official sponsors of the 2013 and 2014 Italian Barista Championships. Nuova Simonelli are the current official sponsor of the World Barista Championship, as well as national competitions all over the world. The company was confirmed as the sponsor of the Italian event, that will take place at Sigep from 19 – 23 January 2013. The winner will go on to represent Italy at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo, taking place from 23 to 26 May 2013 in Australia. The baristas will compete on the Aurelia II  Competition espresso machine with T3 technology. The machine took centre stage at the World Barista Championship 2012 in Vienna. “The T3 system establishes new reference standards for temperature accuracy in water supply,” Nuova Simonelli said in a statement. Baristas using the machine can set the temperature distribution of each group head with maximum flexibility, using three different parameters (water, group, steam). The machine's electronics do the rest: digital pressure and temperature sensors instantaneously send information to the controller, which through three independent PIDs (five in the two group version, seven with three groups) actively manages each variable. The result is unprecedented accuracy, regardless of the workload or environmental conditions. The water supply temperature of each group can be controlled in real time from the display. The company noted: “Nuova Simonelli is ready to offer the best technology available to Italian baristas to deliver excellence in the cup and contribute to the growth of specialty coffee.”
