United Kingdom (UK) coffee chain Pret A Manger (Pret) is launching a new shop format at two sites as it looks to continue its expansion outside of London.

The new store formats will be trialled in Maidenhead and Broughty Ferry (Dundee) from June 2025.

The key differentiator of the new formats is much of the menu will be made-to-order as opposed to Pret’s traditional ‘grab-and-go’ food and coffee offerings.

There will also be more space for dine-in customers, a Little Stars Café play area for families with young children, and full porcelain crockery. There will only be one ‘ready-to-go’ refrigerated shelf for customers on the move.

Pret Managing Director for UK and Europe Clare Clough says the trialling of the new store formats is being undertaken as part of its broader proposition to make the brand more accessible for more people outside of London.

“Throughout the past five years, we’ve made it a priority to bring Pret to more people, whether you’re a city worker commuting to the office, a parent juggling work and family life, or someone catching up with friends,” says Clough.

“Now, we’re taking that further, making Pret a destination for customers in a bit less of a rush who want a comfortable space to enjoy delicious food and spend time with family and friends.

“Our teams have been hard at work making sure everything from the shop design to the unique menu items have been carefully thought through and we can’t wait to see how customers respond.”

Pret will also introduce a lightly roasted organic coffee blend exclusive to these new sites, in addition to its standard 100 per cent organic Arabica coffee and selection of hot and cold drinks.

Franchise partners Hala Group (Maidenhead) and Joup Group (Dundee) will operate the new shops.

The Maidenhead store will feature 87 seats and will open on 21 June, while the Dundee store will feature 78 seats and open from 10 June.

“Opening this new shop in Dundee tailored to our local community is something we’re really proud of,” Chief Executive of Joup Henry Dawes says.

“We’ve worked really closely with Pret to create a space that’s welcoming, spacious, and full of thoughtful delights, right down to the exclusive menu.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming customers later this month and offering them a new Pret experience.”

The introduction of the new format has coincided with the brand reaching 500 total stores across the UK.
