Starbucks has launched a voice ordering and delivering service in partnership with Alibaba for their Shanghai stores.

Customers can now order verbally through the Tmall Genie smart speaker, which leverages Ele.me, Alibaba’s on-demand food delivery platform.

Beverages will be delivered within a 30-minute timeframe, in which customers can track their order in real time.

“We are thrilled to provide our cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence technology through Tmall Genie to serve Starbucks digitally-savvy customers in China,” says Miffy Chen, General Manager at Alibaba A.I. Labs.

Beverages will be delivered using specially designed splash-proof lids, tamper-proof packaging seals and temperature control containers.

The launch marks the one-year anniversary of the relationship between the companies.
