United Kingdom (UK) supermarket chain Asda has announced it is committing £10 million to “refresh” more than 180 of its in-store cafés.
The project will be led by Compass, a partner of Asda that manages its cafés, and will focus on producing a “new look and feel [bringing] a more relaxed coffee shop vibe to the cafés”, a statement from the supermarket reads.
Asda and Compass will begin the refresh program in late-June 2025 and expect it to run until October. Included in the upgrades will be the introduction of digital ordering screens and table ordering service alongside a manned till.
Vice President of Commercial Foods at Asda Ian McEvans says the investment in in-store cafés indicates how crucial they are to producing good customer experiences.
“Cafés are an important part of the shopping experience for many customers, and this significant investment allows us to bring a new look and feel, as well as making improvements to the service and a refresh of the menu,” he says.
Managing Director of One Retail Andrew Jones says the upgrade program is the continuation of the partnership between the two companies.
“It’s great to continue our longstanding partnership with Asda, expanding to work across more stores and enhancing the offer with a significant rebrand and investment,” he says.
“The upgrade program is set to introduce new technology, menu innovations and a new look and feel within the cafés. We look forward in getting started and our continued work together to serve the Asda customer.”
Asda says there will be new additions to the hot drinks menu, as well as a new selection of flavoured iced coffees, alongside the typical coffee offerings as part of the menu refresh.
