Nestlé’s new CEO, Ulf Mark Schneider, has officially assumed the role as of 1 January, 2017, after being named for the position in June last year. Schneider comes to Nestlé after 13 years as CEO of German health care company Fresenius, where he oversaw a series of deals that grew the company’s income by 12 times. Schneider’s track record at Fresenius has raised expectations that Nestlé could be set for a phase of acquisition-fuelled growth, particularly in the health and wellness segment. In terms of its coffee business, Schneider has stated that Nestlé will focus on growing its presence in the US – particularly in the single serve segment, where Nestlé’s Nespresso’s footprint is relatively modest despite being the market leader in Europe.
