World’s first green bean to cup machine developed in Germany

German start-up Bonaverde Coffee Changers are aiming to change the way that coffee is made in the home – and turn the coffee industry on its head in the process – with the forthcoming launch of their green bean to cup coffee machine. The company has been running a Kickstarter campaign for the past week and has already raised more than US$339,000, taking it well past its initial aim of US$135,000. The machine enables home users to roast grind and brew their coffee in one appliance, which is small enough to fit on a kitchen bench. The machine’s developers say that the new technology will help consumers connect directly with coffee farmers. This campaign is the culmination of more than two years of design and testing, and Bonaverde say they have already made five generations of prototypes, and now have 135 of the latest working prototypes in operation. The company has also signed with a manufacturing partner, meaning the Bonaverde machine is likely to be widely available in 2014.
