The buyer of the record-breaking Panamanian coffee that was sold for US$601 per pound at auction in May has run a cupping session in the Sydney suburb of Manly Vale. Jason Kew of Sydney Coffee Business bought the 100-pound lot of the Esmeralda Geisha Canas Verdes Natural at the Best of Panama auction earlier this year. He has since sold 40 pounds of the coffee to the Japanese investor that he outbid at the auction – for cost price – and is now running a cupping session to buyers and connoisseurs at the Seven Miles Coffee shop in Manly Vale. The cupping session, which was billed as ‘the 601 experience’ took place on Friday, 25 August.
