The Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE) has announced the suspension of the Cup of Excellence (CoE) Ethiopia 2023 competition and auction.

This decision was made by the Coffee and Tea Authority due to several issues within Ethiopia that prevented ACE from conducting its rigorous activities required for the program. The organisation has made every attempt to continue with the 2023 edition, but the situation in Ethiopia forced them to suspend operations. ACE’s efforts will now be directed towards a 2024 program.

Over the past three years, ACE has successfully carried out three Cup of Excellence Ethiopia competitions, resulting in more than US$3 million raised for farmers. In 2020, the competition received 1462 samples, resulting in 28 winning lots and 21,510.46 kilograms of coffee with a total value of US$1,348,690.45. The average price per kilogram was US$62.68, and the top price was US$406.83 per kilogram.

In 2021, 1848 samples were received, resulting in 30 winning lots and 25,470.69 kilograms of coffee with a total value of US$1,803,557.95. The average price per kilogram was US$70.91, and the top price was US$165.35 per kilogram.

In 2022, 1741 samples were received, resulting in 30 winning lots and 16,587.74 kilograms of coffee with a total value of US$1,370,736.17. The average price per kilogram was US$82.54, and the top price was US$880.50 per kilogram.

The ACE is grateful for all the support that buyers have given to Ethiopian producers over the last three years and hopes that the ties between buyers and producers keep maintained. ACE will keep compromising with producers in any way that it can support.

ACE is committed to its mission of rewarding coffee producers around the world and will be opening its first CoE Thailand competition in 2023. The organisation is also working on its first pilot program Best of Taiwan. The CoE program is already present in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Peru, and Indonesia.
