Australia bans flat white

The Australian Minister of Caffeinated Beverages (AMCB) has declared that the flat white isn’t actually a drink and is banned from all café menus starting 1 April 2016.

The legitimacy of the flat white has been widely contested in Australia for sometime. An AMCB ruling in parliament yesterday put an end to the national debate once and for all. The decision has been met with mixed reaction in Australia.

“This is a great day for the Australian coffee industry,” said Rafael Bartkowski, Vice-President of the Australian Specialty Coffee Association. “I strongly support the AMCB decision and look forward to the advancement of real milk based coffees from this day forward.”

Bartkowski said he would be celebrating today with a cappuccino or a latte. The Australian Minister of Caffeinated Beverages spoke exclusively to Global Coffee Report Magazine this morning wishing everyone a happy April fools.
