Texan coffee chain Merit Coffee has announced it will donate 100 per cent of the proceeds from all hot and cold drinks sold on Saturday 12 July to the Kerr County Flood Relief fund.
In the early hours of 4 July, surging flood waters cut through central Texas in the United States, with Kerr County the most heavily hit region. At the time of writing, the overall death toll from the natural disaster stands at 119 people. More than 160 people remain missing, most of whom were last seen in Kerr County.
Merit Coffee operates 13 locations throughout the state, including in major cities San Antonio and Dallas, and the capital Austin. It was founded as a café and roastery in 2009.
CEO Bill Ellis says the community must band together in this time of crisis.
“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the floods. This is a moment for us to come together as a community,” says Ellis.
“Through every coffee sold, our customers can be part of helping our neighbours rebuild.”
The funds donated to the Kerr County Flood Relief Emergency Fund will support emergency housing, supplies, and long-term recovery efforts for those in need.
