Costa Coffee has celebrated the milestone of 20 years of operation in India, as the company’s future as part of the Coca-Cola family of brands remains uncertain.

The coffee brand now holds a footprint of more than 200 locations across India, which is set to become one of its top five global markets amid continued plans to expand in the region.

Aparna Chopra, Head of Franchise Emerging Markets – India, SEA & Japan at Costa Coffee, says its ability to innovate in the Indian market has led to its two decades of success.

“Today’s customers are informed, expressive, and eager to explore quality. Costa’s strategy is built around this very insight,” says Chopra.

“Over the past two decades we’ve focused on curating bold, flavour-led innovations and creating café spaces that reflect how India connects, creates, and unwinds.

“As we look ahead, our ambition is to continue innovating with purpose, listening closely to our consumers, and brewing moments that matter.”

In August 2025, Reuters reported Coca-Cola was looking to potentially offload the Costa brand after acquiring it for more than US$5 billion in 2018 to strengthen its position in the global coffee market.

Coca-Cola CEO James Quincy teased potential changes to the running of the Costa brand in an earnings call in July, where he said, “our investment in Coca-Cola is not where we wanted it from an investment hypothesis point of view”.

According to Costa Coffee’s website, there are more than 4000 Costa Coffee shops and 14,000 Smart Café vending machines around the world.
