Not-for-profit organisation College Savings Club of America (CSCOA) has launched a program to address generational poverty in coffee producing regions.

The program, Coffee with a Cause, has been designed to provide children in these regions with better access to quality educational resources and career training.

In a statement, CSCOA said approximately one billion people around the world drink coffee every day, which means millions of people earn a living by producing coffee beans.

“What you may not think about is the fact that most families in coffee producing regions remain trapped in generational poverty,” says CSCOA.

“For children in these families, accessing a quality education is a challenge and severely limits their opportunities to pursue their dreams of a better future.”

CSCOA says Coffee with a Cause has been implemented in coffee producing regions in Latin America, such as Huila and Quindío in Colombia’s Coffee Triangle and Ahuachapán and Concepción de Ataco in El Salvador.

“Through the Coffee with a Cause initiative, coffee becomes more than just a popular beverage – it becomes a way to bring hope and opportunity to children in need,” says CSCOA.

As part of the initiative, CSCOA has developed its own blend from its production partners in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Colombia.

The organisation says 100 per cent of the profit goes back into its education programs for orphaned and high-risk kids and a large portion is directed back into the coffee farm regions where the coffee is grown.
