Scotland’s Dear Green Coffee Roasters has moved into a new 13,500 sq ft roastery in Glasgow off the back of forecasted 30 per cent growth in the current financial year.
Prior to the move, the business had already been roasting more than 63,000kg of coffee from 40 producers worldwide, in addition to training more than 300 baristas.
The expanded site is set to increase the B Corp’s coffee production capacity fivefold, and will also feature training, cupping and community events spaces. The warehouse was built in the 1940s as part of the city’s textiles industry but has since been refurbished.
Dear Green Founder Lisa Lawson, who started the business in 2011 after experiencing specialty coffee culture in Australia. She says the move showcases the growth of Scotland’s coffee industry over the past 14 years.
“When I started Dear Green, specialty coffee culture hadn’t kicked off in Scotland yet, but I was inspired by my experiences in Australia and by the emerging specialty coffee scene around the world,” says Lawson.
“This move proves that a small, values-driven business can grow and still hold onto its high standards in coffee roasting, customer focus, and purpose. It finally gives us the space to further invest in our coffee programme and to act on the sustainability goals we’ve had for years.
“There have been great achievements and challenges along the way. Throughout our 14 years we’ve remained steadfast in our commitment to providing the highest quality coffee possible, while serving our community and being mindful of our environmental impact.”
