The International Coffee Convention (ICC) has announced the city of Mannheim, Germany, will host its 2024 event from 17 to 18 October.

Over the course of the two-day event, the ICC will bring together global coffee experts to discuss emerging trends in the industry and the future of the coffee supply chain.

Executive Director of the International Coffee Organisation (ICO) Dr Vanusia Nogueira will inaugurate the event and deliver the keynote address. The program for this year’s event is designed to tackle pressing issues in the coffee industry. Topics to be discussed include the future landscape of multiple coffee species, land use and coffee farming systems, advancements in coffee preparation and business, sustainable utilisation of coffee by-products, and more.

Attendees will be able to enjoy cupping sessions where they can explore rare coffee species. In addition to this, there will be a live research project on sensory coffee preference testing.

The convention will also host the Kaldi Awards. The Awards aim to celebrate and recognise outstanding contributions in a series of categories including lifetime achievement, green coffee cultivation and processing, and roasting and preparation. The Awards will also acknowledge significant advancements and research within the coffee sector.

This year, the ICC intends to showcase a novel study on the impact of post-roast maturation on the sensory experience of coffee, offering new insights into how aging affects coffee flavour and quality.

According to the ICC, the event aims to gather those who are passionate about coffee on a global level and create collaboration among key coffee players through sharing research and sustainable solutions.
