Swedish-based coffee roaster Löfbergs says it has taken a significant step in its sustainable coffee sourcing operations by becoming one of the first companies in Europe to buy Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC) coffee.
The new certification is built on three pillars: soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness, and aims to promote farming methods that restore ecosystems, increase biodiversity, and improve farmer livelihood.
Green Coffee Trading and Blending Manager at Löfbergs, Johnny England, says the certification it’s an important step in the evolution of organic agriculture.
“Having seen firsthand the positive feedback from producers adopting regenerative organic agricultural practices on a recent trip to Peru, we took the decision to purchase our first container of ROC coffee earlier this year from SACACLI cooperative in Jinotega, Nicaragua,” says England.
“We’re impressed by both the quality and the positive environmental impact.
“This is an important step towards a truly regenerative coffee sector, and we’re proud to support farmers who are leading the way.”
Löfbergs originally started buying organic coffee more than 30 years ago.
