German coffee machine and filter company Melitta Professional has launched a new lab at its North America coffee roasting facility, designed to inspire the next generation of coffee discovery through collaboration, creativity, and education.
Located in New Jersey, United States, Melitta’s new M-Lab spans 3,000 square feet, with a pilot roasting and packaging area at approximately 1,000 square feet.
According to the company, the growth initiative is designed to reinforce the brand’s position in the coffee industry while offering partners a collaborative platform for expansion.
The new facility was built to support coffee companies seeking to grow a “seed to cup” partnership. This includes sourcing, blend development, packaging, and distribution – backed by the company’s team.
The lab also functions as a hybrid research and development area as well as a business incubator, offering hands-on product development and fast-tracked pilot roasting.
Additionally, it features a pilot production space with 60-kilogram Probat roaster and accompanying packaging area for product development.
The company was founded in 1908 by Melitta Bentz, who aimed to revolutionise the brewing process with the invention of the paper filter and drip system. It now operates in more than 90 countries and offers a range of services including the development of coffee machines and technology, and the production of coffee and beverage products.
