Melitta Professional has celebrated the production of its 11,111th coffee machine in its 111-year history at its new site in Minden Germany. Melitta began relocating from its production and logistics site in Switzerland to Germany in 2018, requiring a factory with higher capacity that was also in close proximity to its Minden headquarters. Jero Bentz and Volker Stühmeier of the Melitta Group’s Chief Corporate Management and members of Melitta Professional’s executive board jointly unveiled the 11,111th coffee machine produced in Minden, a Melitta Cafina XT6, which featured red side panels to mark the special occasion. Melitta Professional employees were then invited to add their signature to the special model, which will remain in the company as an exhibit. The fully automatic Melitta Cafina XT6 was the first machines of the XT range, which now comprises seven models. The Minden production and logistics site comprises of three floors, covering around 17,000 square metres. As of late April 2019, 230 people are employed there, 180 of which were new jobs created by the site. The main production areas are pre-assembly, final assembly, and the technical testing of coffee machines at 40 partially automated test stations. Melitta says flexible processes and demand-oriented material flow ensure that both individual orders and major international projects are processed efficiently. One assembly line is set up for each of the current product lines, and another for add-on modules such as milk coolers, cup warmers, and payment systems. Melitta says flexibility is also required within the lines in order to tailor the respective model to individual customer needs. Among other things, customers can choose whether they want one or two grinders, as well as one or two coffee bean, cocoa, and milk varieties. A milk refrigerator can also be mounted on the side or under the machine. Melitta says in the out-of-home market, there is strong demand for such a variety of choice, with regard to both the beverages requested by guests and the tailor-made professional technology demanded by their hosts.
