4C, an internationally recognised sustainability certification for the coffee sector, offers its expertise and solutions to help companies navigate EUDR’s evolving landscape.

The European Commission recently proposed a 12-month postponement for the application of the EU deforestation regulation (EUDR), affecting the timeline for businesses within the coffee sector. This adjustment would allow companies more time to align their operations with upcoming requirements, while the work on deforestation commitments continues.

Understanding the EUDR delay

The European Commission proposed the extension in response to requests from global partners, allowing stakeholders more time to adapt their practices and ensure they meet EUDR requirements. The European Council has agreed to the proposal and upon approval by the European Parliament, the EUDR will then take effect on 30 December 2025 for large companies and 30 June 2026 for micro and small enterprises.

In light of this, 4C Services monitors any changes and additional resources published by the EU Commission and remains committed to swiftly communicating updates to its partners and interested companies.

4C’s EUDR solution

4C says its comprehensive EUDR solution offers coffee and cocoa organisations and businesses a toolkit for navigating the regulation’s requirements. Built on 4C’s existing sustainability certification program, it provides:

  • A robust traceability system, ensuring transparent sourcing and compliance with EUDR traceability demands.
  • Collaboration with 4C’s partner Global Risk Assessment Services (GRAS) delivers in-depth risk assessments that identify deforestation risks within your supply chain.
  • 4C facilitates the collection of crucial data points required for demonstrating deforestation-free practices and completing EUDR due diligence statements.
  • The 4C Code of Conduct incorporates key legal requirements with additional legality check support options.

4C says its EUDR solution goes beyond simply meeting compliance requirements and offers a robust and future-proof approach to sustainable sourcing, with several key advantages:

  • One-stop solution: 4C provides a comprehensive solution covering the requirements of EUDR, including traceability, risk assessment, data collection, and due diligence. This streamlined approach simplifies the process and minimises administrative burdens.
  • Proven track record: More than 30 companies are using 4C’s solution to support their journey to EUDR compliance, with clients noting the efficiency and effectiveness of the approach.
  • Seamless integration for existing 4C-certified companies: For existing 4C-certified companies, integrating the EUDR solution is a straightforward process, as many of the required elements are already covered by the 4C Code of Conduct.
  • Expert guidance and support: 4C’s team of experts provide ongoing support and guidance to help you navigate the complexities of the EUDR.
  • Cost-effective and efficient: 4C’s solution is designed to be efficient and cost-effective, streamlining your compliance processes and reducing administrative overhead.
  • Future-proof your business: By investing in 4C’s EUDR solution, you can future-proof your business and ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Positive impact: 4C’s solution empowers companies to not only achieve compliance but also contribute to lasting positive change in the coffee and cocoa sectors.

By choosing 4C as your EUDR partner, you can confidently navigate the regulatory landscape and secure a sustainable future for your business.

Moving forward with confidence

Although the EUDR implementation timeline might shift, 4C remains dedicated to providing businesses and organisations in the coffee and cocoa sector with the resources and guidance needed as they navigate regulatory requirements. As a strong advocate for deforestation-free markets, 4C will continue to uphold the responsible implementation of the EUDR. Its commitment to offering effective solutions and fostering sustainable practices empowers companies to contribute to a future free from deforestation.
