World Coffee Events announced on 21 October that Nuova Simonelli and Mahlkönig would retain official sponsorship status of the World Barista Championship. Nuova Simonelli announced their retention of their status as official machine sponsor at their 75th Anniversary celebrations, following HOST in Milan. The company had reported in July that their espresso machines Aurelia II T3 and Adonis T3 has passed the World Coffee Events Qualifications test. We are confident that this new generation of machines will enable us to see great results both in terms of product quality in the cup as well as image and sales,” the company's President Nando Ottavi had said at the time. “Our work will continue with the aim of offering espresso coffee machines that feature proven technology, allowing you to maintain consistency in supplying espresso-based beverages.”  Mahlkönig also used the occasion of HOST to make the announcement, noting that: “The technically and visually innovative Grind-on-demand grinders K30 Vario and K30 Twin convinced the judging panel” to renew their sponsorship agreement. Mahlkönig first supported the WBC in 2005. From 2009 until 2011 Mahlkönig has sponsored the WBC held in Atlanta, London and Bogota. In addition to the competition areas, the company also equipped the preparation zones as well as various espresso bars during the three-day competitions. Both companies had seen the end of their previous three-year sponsorship agreement last June at the WBC that took place in Bogota, Colombia. The prestigious competition sees baristas from around the world compete for the WBC title. Relevant companies the world-over compete for the sponsorship positions, passing rigorous technical evaluations, and pledging strong financial and technical support. In addition to the World Barista Championships, World Coffee Events looks after The World Latte Art Championship, World Coffee in Good Spirit Championship and World Cup Tasting Championship. The group was founded as a event-organisation by the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe and American (SCAE and SCAA). The 2012 World Barista Championships is taking place in Vienna, Austria from 12 to 15 June.
