Coffee machine manufacturer Simonelli Group has been listed as one of Italy’s top 100 most sustainable companies, as part of the country’s annual Sustainability Awards.

The awards recognise Italian companies which have distinguished themselves in sustainable developments, social responsibility, and respect for the environment.

The 2021 Sustainability Award ceremony was held at the East End Studios in Milan on 11 October, and was promoted by leading bank Credit Suisse and financial consultancy company Kon Group with Forbes Italia as the award’s media partner.

“For more than 10 years we have undertaken a concrete consideration on the concept of sustainability, in particular, on the reduction of the environmental impact of the company and our products”, says Fabio Ceccarani, CEO of Simonelli Group.

“We are on target to reach total environmental sustainability by the end of 2025, through the strengthening of the photovoltaic system and activities aimed at reducing energy consumption.

The Sustainability Awards are addressed to Italian companies with a turnover between US$13 to 800 million and aims to award the companies which have made significant sustainability development efforts to generate value for stakeholders and the community.

“We are also committed to reducing the environmental impact of our products using the standardised method Life Cycle Assessment,” says Ceccarani.

“This has allowed [Simonelli] to lower carbon dioxide emissions by 23 per cent during the life cycle of our machines, with respect to previous models. We have also developed new technologies with the goal to recover waste energy, in order to reduce energy consumption by over 35 per cent.”

The selection for these companies was twofold; these top 100 companies had to have brought innovation to their sector and displayed sustainability orientated behaviour. Despite not having a European regulation, rating agencies utilised scores and environmental, social, and governance ratings to evaluate each company.
