Starbucks has announced the election of Dr Dambisa Moyo and Marissa Mayer to its Board of Directors, effective 25 June 2025.

Dr Moyo has been a Co-Principal of Versaca Investments since she co-founded it in 2021, and has more than 30 years of experience analysing macroeconomic and international affairs according to Starbucks.

She previously served as CEO of financial and economics firm Mildstorm LLC from 2015 to 2021, and has worked at Goldman Sachs and World Bank. She is also on the boards of Chevron Corporation and Condé Nast.

Mayer is the Founder and CEO of technology startup Sunshine AI, and has previously served as CEO, President, and a Director on the board of Yahoo!. She currently serves on the boards of Walmart, AT&T, and Hilton Hotels & Resorts.

“I am excited to welcome Dambisa and Marissa to the Starbucks Board of Directors. They bring deep experience in areas that matter to our future, including technology, transformation, and global affairs,” says Starbucks Chairman and CEO Brian Niccol.

“We have a strong board and Dambisa and Marissa’s additional insight will be a big asset as we accelerate our Back to Starbucks strategy.”

Mayer says the opportunity to offer insight into the Back to Starbucks program, which aims to reduce complexity to revitalise the business, was a key driver in her decision to stand for board election.

“At its core, Starbucks has always blended meaningful relationships with a spirit of innovation. I’m honoured to join the Starbucks Board of Directors at such a dynamic point in the company’s journey,” says Mayer.

“The Back to Starbucks strategy is a powerful call to return to the brand’s strengths while embracing the digital tools that will define the next generation of customer and partner experience.”

Moyo and Mayer have joined nine other members on the Starbucks Board of Directors – Ritch Allison, Andrew Campion, Beth Ford, Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, Neal Mohan, Daniel Servitje, Mike Sievert, Wei Zhang, and Brian Niccol.
