American coffee chain Starbucks has committed to using advanced technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) in its stores across the United States (US).
The company has recently introduced AI-powered automated counting, which will aid workers in the counting of inventory through the use of a handheld tablet quick-scan tool. With more than 16,000 stores across the US, the AI technology aims to increase efficiency in day-to-day operations.
According to Starbucks, the technology was developed in collaboration with NomadGo and combines computer vision, 3D spatial intelligence, and augmented reality to deliver fast, accurate inventory counts. The tool can identify available stock, flag low-stock items, and will soon automate restock orders.
“We’ve already deployed this innovation in thousands of coffeehouses, and the impact is clear: inventory is now counted eight times more frequently, giving us real-time visibility and enabling faster, more precise replenishment,” Starbucks said in a statement
“By the end of September, AI-powered automated counting will be live in all company-operated coffeehouses across North America — and this is just the beginning.
“At Starbucks, technology isn’t about bells and whistles — it’s about creating meaningful efficiencies that preserve and strengthen craft and connection.”
