Volcafe’s Molinos de Honduras has hosted its ‘Café Gourmet’ event at its mill in El Paraíso on 26 July.

Café Gourmet is an annual competition in which Molinos de Honduras recognises coffee producers in the country for their efforts in a number of areas.

“Café Gourmet provides a positive incentive to farmers to adopt good practises that also improve their earnings,” says Molinos de Honduras General Manager Frank Reese.

The event offers prizes for producer groups in areas such as volume delivered, involvement of women, quality of coffee, and best agricultural practises.

“Everyone enjoys a contest and a bit of healthy competition,” says Reese. “Café Gourmet provides a positive incentive to farmers to adopt good practices that also improve their earnings, while giving us at Molinos a chance to recognise the impressive work of our producer-partners.”

This year, the event’s prize for the farmer with the most outstanding coffee was won by Reinaldo Sánchez Aguilar from Comayagua.

Volcafe says the event helps the company acknowledge farmers’ efforts to improve their practises and their earnings.
