ZUS Coffee has celebrated the launch of its 1000th store in interesting fashion, with a cryptic social media post saying all the brand’s existing 999 stores were set to close.
“We’re closing, it’s very sudden and we’re sorry. You guys made all our 999 outlets possible. But we couldn’t open our 1000th outlet without pausing,” the post says.
“Congratulations, u (sic) got scammed!”
In reality, Zus Coffee closed most of its outlet early on 22 October to pause in celebration of the milestone, before offering a new promotional deal to customers on the app.
Since launching in Malaysia late 2019, ZUS has exploded in popularity across southeast Asia. It is now the largest coffee chain in its home market with 743 stores – more than double Starbucks’ 320.
It first expanded outside of Malaysia – to the Philippines – in September 2023, before launching in Singapore and Brunei in late 2024.
This year has seen the brand expand into the region, with its first foray into Thailand seeing two locations opened in Bangkok.
